Smith, Root and Williamson better than me in Tests, says Virat

New Delhi: A modest Virat Kohli sought to downplay media over his comparison with his contemporaries Steve Smith, Joe Root and Kane Williamson, saying that they are better than him in Tests.

Rating the other three (Smith, Root and Williamson) above him, Virat said I have known my limitations after watching batting performances of them, majorly in Test Cricket.

“To me, all these players are world class and I always rate them above me, in Test cricket especially, because of the way they have performed in the last one or two seasons and I understand my limitations,” said Virat.

In the recent ICC Test rankings, Kohli was at the second spot while Smith was enjoying the top spot.

Calling the competition good for the game and fans, Virat said that it is great to be placed among the top 4-5 players in the game of Cricket.

In an interview to a leading media house, Virat said:

  • I think it is more for the fans to put us in a group of young players coming up in world cricket.
  • It is a healthy thing and great for the game, as well as a great topic for debate.
  • It is great to know that you are part of a bunch of 4-5 players who are taking world cricket forward.

Dubbing media reports as a massive distraction, Kohli said I totally move away from it.
