Rio 2016: Sania, Bopanna lose to Venus-Ram of America in mixed doubles

Rio de Janeiro: Indian pair of Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna lost the semi finals of mixed doubles against United States of America pair Venus Williams and Rajiv Ram on Saturday at the ongoing Rio Olympics.

Venus-Ram defeated the Indian pair by 2-6. 6-2 and 3-10. Venus and Ram have now cruised into the finals of mixed doubles.

The Indian pair was leading in the first set but they were dominated by the American pair in second pair which resulted in a tie breaker, which was subsequently won by the Venus-Ram.

They lost in the tie-breaker by 3-10.

Sania and Bopanna will now compete for Bronze medal.

Earlier on Friday, Sania-Bopanna defeated Andy Murray-Heather Watson of Britain in straight sets 6-4 6-4 in the quarter-finals.

India have won only one tennis medal in Olympics history.

Leander Paes won a bronze medal in the men’s singles category at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
