Rio de Janeiro: The organisers at the Rio Olympics have threatened to cancel the pass of Indian sports Minister Vijay Goel for the rude behaviour by his assistants with the organizing staff.

According to the reports, Goel’s posse was rude and aggressive with the organizing staff on several accounts which forced the organizing committee to threaten him of cancelling his pass. Goel is presently in Rio to provide support and cheer for Indian athletes.

Sarah Peterson, the continental manager for the Rio games Organizing Committee, warned to revoke the pass of Vijay Goel by writing a letter to Indian Chef-de-Mission Rakesh Gupta.

"The organizing committee has received several complaints against your minister trying to enter accredited areas at venues with unaccredited individuals. His assistants have pushed our staff and their attitude was very rude and aggressive," Peterson said in her letter to Gupta. Adding, “The kind of behaviour is unacceptable and the accreditation of your minister will be cancelled if it continues.”

Chef Rakesh Gupta says:

  • The minister was invited by the team to interact with the players.
  • He went down to the field, not knowing that he needed a special pass.
  • He took the special pass and only then met the players.
  • It is unfortunate that a non-issue is being made an issue without any reason.
