Kanpur: Gujarat Lions overpowered Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians by 6 wickets and topped the points table by winning 9 games in 14 outings. Skipper Suresh Raina’s 58 and Brendon McCullum’s 48 helped GL in scripting a terrific win over MI in IPL 2016 at the Green Park stadium here on Saturday.

Chasing a total of 172 runs, GL batsman Aaron Finch, who was promoted up in the batting order departed in the very first over of Gujarat innings without scoring any run.

Raina (58) and McCullum (48) scored some quick fire runs and added 96 in 9 overs setting up the game for the Gujarat Lions.

Dwayne Smith (37*) and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja (21*) finished the things off for Lions with 13 balls remaining.

Previously, Mumbai Indians young talent Nitish Rana impressed with his spectacular knock of 70 runs which came off just 36 balls with 7 boundaries and 4 sixes.

GL bowling side in the form Praveen Kumar, Dhawal Kulkarni and Dwayne Smith bagged 2 wickets each.

After this defeat, Rohit Sharma and brigade are officially out of the Vivo Indian Premier League.
