Prithvi Shaw joins elite list with Ranji Trophy’s debut ton

Rajkot: In his very first appearance in the Ranji Trophy, a 17-year old opener Prithvi Shaw has proved his mettle by hitting a ton.

He has registered his name as the third batsmen of Mumbai to touch the three-figure mark on debut along with Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. Prithvi also became second youngest batsman to hit 100 after Master Blaster.

The hundred came on the fifth day of the Ranji Trophy semifinal. His 175-ball 120-run inning was studded with 12 fours and a maximum. Shaw was at 99 when he was caught at backward point but no-ball was called by the umpire.

After hitting a memorable ton, Prithvi thanked Rahul Dravid under whom he was groomed for 25 days.

Earlier, Shaw, at an age of 14 had scored world record 546 runs, in a Harris Shield school match in Mumbai.

Mumbai will lock horns with Gujarat in the finals of Ranji Trophy, beginning January 10.
