New Delhi: The flamboyant Mumbai opener Prithvi Shaw has been named the skipper of team India for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, scheduled to be held next year, said the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday.

"The All-India Junior Selection Committee has picked the India U19 team for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2018. The 16-member team event will be held in New Zealand from January 13 to February 3, 2018," BCCI acting Secretary Amitabh Choudhary said in a release.

Prithvi Shaw has been rewarded for his consistent performances with the bat over the recent times. He, while playing for Mumbai, also amassed 521 runs in 10 innings with three hundreds in the ongoing Ranji Trophy.

India U-19 team, which ended as runner-ups in the previous edition of the ICC U-19 World Cup, has won the title thrice in 2000, 2008 and 2012. India had lost the final of the previous edition at the hands of West Indies in Bangladesh.

India, along with Australia, is the most successful team in the history of the tournament. Aussies have won the title thrice in 1988, 2002 and 2010.

To prepare the young bunch of boys for the international event, a camp will be held in Bengaluru starting from Friday December 8 to December 12.

Prithvi Shaw (Captain), Shubman Gill (vice-captain), Manjot Kalra, Himanshu Rana, Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Aryan Juyal (wicket-keeper), Harvik Desai (wicket-keeper), Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Ishan Porel, Arshdeep Singh, Anukul Roy, Shiva Singh, Pankaj Yadav.

The list of standby players: Om Bhosle, Rahul Chahar, Ninad Rathva, Urvil Patel and Aditya Thakare.
