New Delhi: Portugal captain Christiano Ronaldo, who had failed to capitalise a penalty awarded to his team early on ,did not repeat the mistake in match against Polland on Thursday night, helping the team enter the semis.

The winner was decided through penalty shoot-outs which ended in Portugal’s favour (5-3).Polland dominated in the beginning of the match, so much so that its captain

Robert Lewandowski scored a goal in two minutes of the play. But before the end of the first half Portugal levelled the score. The second half and extra times given twice also proved futile.

Ronaldo’s performance throughout the match was that of a mediocre. One of the television commentators was so disappointed that he even suggested that he should be dropped from other matches. The team will now play against the winner of Friday night’s match between Wales and Belgium.

Happy with outcome against Polland, Ronaldo tweeted “The dream is getting closer and anything can happen now. I'm not missing anything (in honours) and even if my career finished today I would still feel privileged".

"But I've always said, and I don't hide it, that I would love to win a title with the national team. We're on the right road.", he added.
