Rio de Janeiro: The pools at the Rio Olympics are turning green and chemical imbalance was the reason stated behind this by the officials.

Officials on Wednesday dismissed the algae theory behind the sudden colour change of the pools.

Official sources here said that, chemical tests were done to know the reason of colour change of the pools and it came to notice that it is happening because a lot of people had been in the pools in the past week, for practices and competitions at the Maria Lenk Aquatic Center.

A visit Wednesday afternoon showed that the diving pool was still a fairly dark shade of green while the pool for water polo and synchronised swimming was somewhat lighter, more of a sea glass green.

The alkalinity levels were already improving, officials said.
