Rio de Janeiro: Two-time World Championship bronze medallist, P V Sindhu, on Thursday won her first match against Hungary’s Laura Sarosi at the ongoing Rio Olympics.

The ninth seed P V Sindhu defeated Sarosi in the women's singles competition by 21-8, 21-9 in a Group M match.

The match lasted for 27 minutes.

Sindhu will play next against Glasgow Commonwealth Games champion Li Michelle of Canada.

The next match of preliminaries is scheduled on August 14.

Earlier, in the day Indian pair Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa faced a defeat from World Number 1 Japanese pair of Ayaka Takahashi and Misaki Matsumoto.

The Group A opener match lasted 36 minutes.

A lack of coordination was also seen amongst the Indian pair of Jwala and Ponappa.
