Even though the Indian team had to face defeat in the Border-Gavaskar series (IND vs AUS, 5th Test), India's bowler Jasprit Bumrah (Jasprit Bumrah record in Test) created history. Bumrah created a stir in world cricket by taking 32 wickets. Bumrah was awarded the Player of the Match title for his brilliant bowling. While Bumrah became the highest wicket-taker in a series in Border-Gavaskar history and equaled Harbhajan Singh, on the other hand, Bumrah surprised the world by setting the record for taking the most wickets in a series in Australia, apart from this, the Indian bowler has succeeded in doing a big feat by winning the Player of the Series title.

In fact, Jasprit Bumrah is now the only Indian bowler who has succeeded in winning the 'Player of the Tournament' title in the Test series played in England, South Africa and Australia. Before Bumrah, no Indian bowler nor any Indian batsman had won the Player of the Series title in a Test series played at all three places. This is a historic achievement for Bumrah.

Along with this, Jasprit Bumrah has also become the player who has jointly won the most Player of the Series awards in Test matches in SENA countries, he has won his third Player of the Series title in this BGT. Rahul Dravid has also won the Player of the Series award three times - two in England and one in Australia.
