IPL 2020: Current India Bowler, Multiple CSK Members Test Positive For COVID-19

Multiple members of the Chennai Super Kings have reportedly tested positive days before the Indian Premier League franchise was scheduled to begin its training for the upcoming tournament in Dubai.

In a major development, at least 10 members of IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings - including a current India limited-overs bowler and several members of its staff - have tested positive for Covid-19 in Dubai on Friday. Days before the Indian Premier League franchise was scheduled to begin its training for the upcoming tournament in Dubai.

If the reports are true, MS Dhoni-led CSK will have to extend their quarantine period. PTI reported a current India limited-overs cricketer among those who have tested positive. The names of the cricketers, however, have not been revealed.

With an additional quarantine of seven-day, according to the BCCI’s Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for those who tested positive. CSK will be forced to extend the quarantine period till September 1.

All COVID-19 positive results came during day 1, 3 and 6 of testing after the contingent’s landing in Dubai. The IPL is due to begin on September 19.

“Yes, a right-arm medium fast bowler, who has recently played for India, along with a few staff members have tested positive for COVID-19,” a senior IPL source told PTI on conditions of anonymity. “As far as we know, one of the senior-most officials of the CSK management and his wife, and at least two members of their social media team are also COVID-19 positive,” he added.

The players will be allowed to enter the bio-secure bubble only after returning negative in tests to be conducted after the extended isolation.

The 13th edition of IPL was shifted out of India due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
