IPL 10 GL vs KKR: Raina, Karthik guide Gujarat to 183/4

Rajkot: Gujarat Lions (GL) skipper Suresh Raina guided his team to a fighting total of 183/4 with a fine half-century against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter at the Saurashtra Cricket Association stadium here on Friday.

After being put in to bat first by KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir, GL opener Brendon McCullum scored a rapid fire 35-run inning off just 24 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. His opening partner Jason Roy had failed to connect a short-pitch delivery and gave a simple catch to Yusuf Pathan at the deep square leg.

Despite looking off-colour in this inning, Raina scored 68 runs off 51 balls hitting 7 boundaries. Aaron Finch also started off nicely but could not capitalize and got out after scoring 15 runs off 8 balls with the help of 2 sixes.

Wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik also played a crucial role in elevating the team's total by adding 87 runs for the fourth wicket. He scored 47 runs off 24 balls hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes.

Kuldeep Yadav, who recently got his first break in team India, was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged 2 wickets in his four overs, conceding just 25 runs.

Piyush Chawla was the only other successful bowler as he claimed one wicket giving away 33 runs in his four-over spell. Sunil Narine, however, remained wicket-less.

KKR will soon be back on the ground to chase down a good total of 184 runs.
