Rajkot: Following Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara and R Ashwin's heroics, India manged 488 runs in the first innings, though still 49 runs short off England's first inning total of 537 runs, at tea on Day 4 of the first of five-Test mach series at Saurashtra Cricket Association stadium here on Saturday. Ashwin scored 70 runs which helped India reaching near England's total of 537 runs. India trail England by 49 runs.

Resuming the Day 4 at 319/4, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane began India's stand but failed to continue it for long. Kohli got out in one of the most weird manners as was given out hit wicket at a score of 40 runs. Rahane also departed scoring 13 runs. Then, Saha and Ashwin shared 64 runs partnership. Ashwin's 70-run inning was studded with seven fours.

Earlier, Vijay (126) and Pujara (124) scored tons putting India in the commanding position.
