Rio de Janeiro: Indian boxer Vikas Krishnan Yadav progressed for the quarter finals of 75 kg middle weight category beating Turkery’s Onder Sipal on Friday at the ongoing Rio Olympics.

Krishnan won the first round by 29-27 and the second round by 30-27.

He has now become the first Indian boxer to reach the quarter finals at Rio Games.

Krishnan will now meet Uzbekistan’s world championships silver medallist Bektemir Melikuziev in the next bout.

Showing great footwork Vikas, hurled punches at Sipal and doused punches as well.

The second and third round was more dominated by Vikas and he was awarded the two round by unanimous decision.

Apart from Vikas, Manoj Kumar is the other boxer still in the contest in the men’s 66kg.
