India vs England 3rd ODI: Roy, Stokes take hosts to 321/8
Kolkata: After being put in to bat first by India, England batsman managed to aggregate a huge total of 321 runs in the third and final ODI at the Eden Gardens here on Sunday.
Continuing his great form, Jason Roy scored yet another half-century as he added 65 runs off 56 balls, hitting 10 fours and a six. Sam Billings, who was given a chance in place of Alex Hales, scored 35 runs and shared the crease in a 98-run partnership with Roy for the first wicket.
Jonny Baristow, who came in for Joe Root, also played a good inning of 56 runs off 64 balls with 5 fours and a six. Skipper Eion Morgan, who scored a scintillating hundred in the previous match, missed his half-century as he scored 43 runs off 44 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes.
Jos Buttler (11 off 15) one again failed to perform while, Ben Stokes accelerated the scoring rate during the slog overs and remained unbeaten at 57 runs off 39 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes.
Moeen Ali (2) got out early but Chris Woakes played an aggressive cameo of 34 runs off 19 balls with 4 fours and a six.
With the help of these fine innings, England managed to post 321/8 on the scoreboard.
Hardik Pandya was the pick of the bowlers from Indian side as he bagged 3 wickets for 49 runs in his 10 overs. Ravindra Jadeja plucked 2 wickets for 62 runs in 10 overs while R Ashwin went wicket-less. Jasprit Bumrah also bagged a wicket for 68 runs in his 10 overs.
India will soon come back on the ground to chase down a huge target of 322 runs.
