India vs England 2nd ODI: India seals series 2-0 with 15 run win over England

Cuttack: India held their nerves in a nail-biting encounter to seal the three-match series 2-0 against England, as the home team defeated the visitors by 15 runs in the second One Day International at Barabati Stadium here on Thursday.

Coming in to chase down a mammoth target of 382 runs, England lost their first wicket at 28 runs in form of Alex Hales (14 off 12). Joe Root and Jason Roy, however, put up a good 100-run partnership for the second wicket, before R Ashwin deceived the former to reduce the England team to 128/2.

Root departed after scoring 54 runs off 55 balls with 8 boundaries, while Roy (82 runs off 73 balls, 9 fours and 2 sixes) also followed him to the pavilion after adding 42 runs with Eoin Morgan for the 3rd wicket.

Ben Stokes (1) and Jos Buttler (10) failed to fire in the do or die match but Morgan and Moeen Ali brought England back in the match by exhibiting some aggressive brand of Cricket. They added 93 runs off just 73 balls for the 6th wicket.

Morgan scored a magnificent 102 runs off 81 balls with 6 fours and 5 sixes while Ali made 55 runs off 43 balls with 6 fours. While Chris Woakes (5 off 4) went back cheaply, Liam Plunkett scored 25 important runs off just 16 balls with 5 boundaries.

Even the above mentioned fine performances were not enough to outdo the richness of Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni's innings.

Earlier after being put in to bat first, India, with the help of centuries by Yuvraj Singh (150) and MS Dhoni (134), posted a mammoth total of 381/6 in final 50 overs.

India now leads the three-match series 2-0 with one match yet to be played at Eden gardens in Kolkata.
