Adelaide: Skipper Virat Kohli's brilliant 104 runs knock and a consistent half century by MS Dhoni help India beat Australia by six wickets with four balls remaining at the Adelaide Oval here on Tuesday. With this win, India levels series 1-1.

Chasing a handsome score of 299 runs set by the Kangaroos, India got a decent start with Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma hitting few good knocks. The partnership though didn't carried for long as Dhawan went back to pavillion by scoring 32 runs off 28 balls. With Dhawan's dismissal, Kohli was the next man on the crease.

Kohli, the man who learns from his past mistrakes, started sensible and kept on the scorecard tickling for his team. He was adamant enough to not throw his wickets by playing any loose shot. Rohit, on the other hand, was troubling the Australian bowlers. But Rohit cannot sustain for long on the crease as he too departed after adding 43 runs off 52 balls with the help of 2 fours and 2 sixes. India were 101/2 in 18 overs.

Rayudu was on the crease with Virat Kohli. Things went slow for India at this time and skipper pushed Rayudu to take charge to build pressure on the Aussies bowlers. But Rayudu, who scored 24 runs off 36 balls, was caught in the safe hands of Stoinis and this brought in-form MS Dhoni in the middle.

Dhoni and Kohli build a brilliant partnership of 82 runs and took India close to the victory. This was the time when Kohli completed his 39th century in 108 deliveries with the help of 5 fours and 2 sixes. An unfortunate Kohli was out on 104 runs, upsetting the fans of team India.

It was a cheering time for Australian bowlers but not enough as Dhoni was still on the crease and well setelled. The last few runs were brilliantly scored by Dhoni and Dinesh Kartik who scored a quick 25 runs of 14 balls and these were the final winning runs for team India.

From Australian side, Behrendorff, Richardson, Stoinis and Maxwell plucked a wicket each.

Virat Kohli awarded the Player of the Match.
