Nagpur: After two fabulous hundreds by Cheteshwar Pujara and Murali Vijay, team India skipper Virat Kohli led from the front with a record-breaking double hundred to take a mammoth 405-run lead over Sri Lanka at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium here on Sunday.

At stumps on Day 3, Sri Lanka was reeling under immense pressure at 21/1 with Dimuth Karunaratne (11) and Lahiru Thirimanne (9) batting at the crease, while Sadeera Samarawickrama (0 off 2) returned to the pavilion in the first over of the inning, bowled by Ishant Sharma.

Earlier, India declared their innings at 610/6, as soon as Rohit Sharma completed his third hundred in Test Cricket. He scored 102 runs off 160 balls with 8 fours and a six.

Resuming the day at 312/2 and a lead of 105 runs, India added 298 runs to their total on Day 3. Virat Kohli (213 off 267, 17 fours and 2 sixes) and Rohit Sharma (102 off 160 balls, 8 fours, 1 six) were the biggest contributors on the particular day.

Ajinkya Rahane failed to capitalise the set platform and went back after scoring just 2 runs off 15 deliveries. Ravichandran Ashwin also failed to perform adding just 5 runs off 14 balls to the total. Wriddhiman Saha remained unbeaten at 1 run off 5 balls.

Dilruwan Perera was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors as he plucked three wickets, while Lahiru Gamage, Rangana Herath and Dasun Shanaka took one wicket each.

Indian batsmen showed sheer brilliance with the bat to dominate the match and put Sri Lanka, who somehow escaped defeat in the first Test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, under huge pressure.
