Indore: India registered 14th straight series win across all formats by winning the second Twenty 20 International (T20I) against Sri Lanka by 88 runs at the Holkar Cricket Stadium here on Friday.

After a scintillating hundred by stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma, Indian spinners, though went for too many runs, but bagged 7 wickets together to dismiss the entire visiting side for 172 runs in 17.2 overs.

Coming in to chase a gigantic target of 261 runs, Sri Lanka got off to a flying start with openers Nirosham Dickwella and Upul Tharanga sharing the crease in a 36-run partnership for the first wicket in just 4.2 overs. After Dickwella (25 off 19, 2 fours, 1 six) departed, Tharanga and Kusal Perera took the momentum forward and added 109 runs for the second wicket in just 53 balls.

As Tharanga (47 off 29, 3 fours, 2 sixes) got back to the dugout, the remaining Lankan side shattered miserably and lost 8 wickets (one absent hurt) for only 27 runs. Kusal Perera was the only positive for Sri Lanka to feel proud about as he scored a rapid fire 77 runs off only 37 balls and laced his inning with 4 fours and 7 sixes.

None other Lankan batsman could manage to get into the double figures while Angelo Mathews who got hurt while bowling did not come to bat.

Yuzvendra Chahal went for 52 runs in his four over but managed to bag 4 wickets, while chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav picked up 3 wickets for equal number of runs in his four overs. Jaydev Unadkat and Hardik Pandya also managed to get a wicket each in their respective spells.

In reply to India's 21 sixes, Sri Lanka managed to hit 10 sixes in the inning.

Earlier after being put in to bat, skipper Rohit Sharma blasted the fastest Twenty20 International (T20I) century off just 35 balls to power India to a gigantic total of 260/5.

Rohit scored 118 runs off only 43 balls and hit 12 fours and 10 massive sixes to dismantle Lankan bowling with ease. Lokesh Rahul also played a fantastic knock of 89 runs off only 43 balls hitting 5 fours and 8 sixes. The opening duo added 165 runs in only 12.4 overs, which laid the foundation of a tremendous total.

Rohit Sharma now shares the record for the fastest T20I hundred with South African middle-order batsman David Miller. India’s total of 260/5 is the second highest team total in T20Is after Australia’s 263 vs Sri Lanka in 2016.

MS Dhoni also played an important inning of 28 runs, though, he took 21 balls for his inning. He smashed 2 fours and 2 sixes in his knock. Hardik Pandya played an explosive cameo hitting a six and a four before getting out on the third delivery he faced at 10 runs.

Shreyas Iyer failed to open his account as he was dismissed for a golden duck. Manish Pandey scored one run off the only delivery he faced while Dinesh Karthik scored 5 runs off 2 balls with 1 boundary.

Indian batsmen smashed 21 sixes in the inning.

Nuwan Pradeep and Thisara Perera bagged two wickets each while Dushmantha Chameera managed to get one wicket.
