Ind vs Eng, Day 2: Host India has a clear upper hand in 2nd Cricket Test match

Visakhapatnam: England was tottering at 103/5 in reply to India’s first inning total of 455 on day 2 of second of the five-match Cricket test series here at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium on Friday.

At stumps, Stokes (12) and Bairsto (12) were at the crease before top half of the England was perished, leaving India in a very formidable situation. England still needs 153 runs to avoid follow on while there last specialist pair is on the crease.

Resuming from overnight total of 317/4, India added 138 runs with the help of another half century by R Ashwin and Virat Kohli’s classy 167. Debutant spinner Jayant Yadav chipped in with fine 35, thus helping the cause of India.

England were never quite in the game as it lost captain Alastair Cook in the third over of the inning when Mohammad Shami clean bowled him. Joe Root, who scored another 50, tried to salvage the situation for his side but could not get support from the other end as the next highest individual score was 13 by teenager debutant Hameed.

England suffered the last blow in post-tea session when Jayant Yadav consumed Moeen Ali. Other spinner Ashwin took two wickets. England faces an uphill task to overhaul India’s score which looks like highly unlikely on a slow turner wicket of Visakhapatnam, hosting its first test match.

Brief Score:

India 1st Inning: 455 (Virat Kohli 167, Pujara 119, Anderson 3 for 62, Moeen Ali 3 for 98)

England 1st Inning: (Joe Root 53, Ashwin 2 for 20, Jayant Yadav 1 for 11)
