Rio de Janeiro: Indian archer Deepika Kumari on Wedneday cruised into the pre-quarter finals of individual event at the ongoing Rio Olympics.

Deepika booked her berth to the pre-quarter finals after winning the 1/64 and 1/32 contests.

She first faced Georgia’s Kristine Esebua in a high-quality first round contest.

The scoreline read 27-26, 29-29, 30-27, 27-29, 29-29

The Indian archer next faced world no. 12 Guendalina Sartori of Italy.

Deepika lost the first set 24-27 but made a comeback in the games in the second and third set.

She dominated the next three sets to pocket them 29-28, 28-26 and 28-27.

Earlier, in the day, Bombyla Devi also booked her place in the pre-quarter finals/

It may be mentioned that Indian archery trio of Deepika Kumari, Laxmirani Majhi and Bombayla Devi lose 4-5 to Russia in women’s team quarters and were knocked out of Rio 2016 Olympics.
