New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) could cancel ongoing India-New Zealand Cricket series owing to the Justice LM Lodha committee’s direction to banks to hold its accounts.

As per the BCCI, the step might affect IndvsNZ series.

A top BCCI official said:

  • Lodha Committee’s direction to banks to freeze BCCI’s accounts has left us with no choice other than cancelling India-New Zealand series.
  • We do not want to dishonour India globally by calling off the series midway.
  • How can we function, how can we hold any games now? Who will make the payment?
  • Freezing bank accounts has left us into trouble as an international team is touring India and there is so much at stake.

"It has come to the notice of this Committee that certain decisions have been taken at the 'Emergent Working Committee' meeting of the BCCI on 30th September 2016 to disburse large funds to the various member associations," the letter stated.

Indian team has played two Tests against Black Caps with single Test and five ODIs remaining.

It could be mentioned here that India regained the top rankings in the ICC Test Rankings overtaking Pakistan.
