BCCI announces Champions Trophy squad; Rohit, Dhawan included

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced the squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy to be held in England from June 1. Openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan make their return after injury.

Gautam Gambhir and Suresh Raina, however, failed to get a place in the Indian squad despite going good with the bat in the ongoing Indian Premiere League (IPL) season 10.

India will play the first match on June 4 against the arch rival Pakistan.

Here is the complete squad:

Virat Kohli (Captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, M.S. Dhoni (WK), Yuvraj Singh, Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Manish Pandey, Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Ajinkya Rahane.

BCCI selection committee chairman MSK Prasad said that Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Suresh Raina and Dinesh Karthik are the stand-by players.

"The stand-by players will be issued visas and will practise at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru," said Prasad.

It may be mentioned that BCCI took more than two weeks to announce the team after missing the April 25 deadline set by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The delay occurred due to the ongoing tussle between the Indian board and the Cricket governing body.
