55-year-old Nino Salukvadze created history by participating in the Paris Olympics. Pistol shooter Nino, representing Georgia, has become the first female player in the world to play in ten Olympics. She earlier represented the Soviet Union. Nino participated in the 1988 Seoul Olympics at the age of 19, since then she has played every Olympics till 2024. She won gold in 25m pistol and silver in 10m air pistol event in the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Nino was also the flag bearer of Georgia in the Paris Olympics, she played this role for the third time in these games.
Now hope in 25m pistol
However, Nino could not qualify for the final in the 10m air pistol event in the Paris Olympics. Nino finished 38th in the qualification round. Now she will compete in 25m pistol on Friday.
Representing Georgia in eight Olympics
Salukvadze played for the Soviet Union in 1988 and after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, she played for the Unified Team in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. She has been representing Georgia in the last eight Olympics.
Won hearts along with medals in Beijing
Nino also came into the limelight in the 2008 Beijing Olympics when Russia fought a war with Georgia for some time. Salukvadze won the bronze medal and hugged Russia's Natalia Padrina, who won the silver medal, on the podium. Her sportsmanship won everyone's heart.
Son is also a shooter, played together in the 2016 Rio Olympics
Not only Nino, his son Tisone Machavariani is also a shooter. Nino and his son Tisone represented Georgia in the 2016 Rio Olympics. This was the first mother-son pair to play at the same time in Olympic history. Tisone participated in the men's 10 meter air pistol event in the Rio Olympics.
