New Delhi: Marking two of the most prominent Indian occasions, President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday paid homage to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary.
The President garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat and also attended a function at Rashtrapati Bhavan to mark ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’. PM Modi also visited Raj Ghat and Vijay Ghat to pay homage to the Mahatama Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shahstri respectively.
Mukherjee had earlier on Saturday evening greeted the nation saying, “Gandhiji taught us the value of harmonious co-existence and mutual respect. He displayed a rare constellation of abilities and showed how individuals can advance social and political change. He had an exemplary passion for justice and an indefatigable spirit of service to mankind.”
