Lucknow: Varun Gandhi is emerging as Shatgrughan Sinha of Uttar Pradesh. Toeing Bihari Babu line, his supporters are projecting him as UP BJP”S chief ministerial candidate before the elections in the state. Posters in this connection have come up in some parts of the state including Allahabad where the national executive of the party is holding a two-day meeting beginning on Sunday.

The posters have been pasted by his followers but since he has not said anything against them nor has he reprimanded his supporters , it is clear that they have got his nod. Allahabad tops the list in the poster campaign because it is generally believed that the chief ministerial face for the next assembly election in the state will be decided at the executive meeting. It has been flooded with posters.

These posters have surfaced despite warning by the party president Amit Shah that disciplinary action would be taken against any one going against the party policy. Inaction by the party in this regard has only emboldened his supporters. Party members backing him say he is best suited because he is young and the baton should be now passed on to the young generation.

In one of posters even HRD minister Smriti Irani has been dragged. The caption under the poster translated in english reads: smriti is sick, so country is calling Varun to lead the country. Her name has figured because his supporters feared that she could be a competitor being relatively young.

Before the elections in Bihar sometime back, Shatrughan Sinha had acted likewise. To demand his selection as chief ministerial candidate in Bihar posters, had appeared all over the state capital. Though the party high command did not pay any heed to this demand nor took any action against any one, the film actor-turned politician continued to cause embarrassment to the party by making some statement or the other against the party leadership, later. Expectedly, he has been out of the party’s good book.

In these circumstances Shatru’s pictures on posters supporting Varun’s candidature should have been avoided. But it has not been done. In addition, in some posters they have put up photograph of Sanjay Joshi along with Varun and Shatrughan. Incidentally, Sanjay is one person Prime Minister Narendra Modi hates. Some other faces disliked by the party bosses also appear in posters in support of Varun.

His supporters may not like it but their leader has been a controversial figure. He has also done in the past many things which could not be liked by the party. Even election commission has taken exception to his statements in the past. In fact, he has been in jail for making some communal remark. He was let out by the Supreme Court.

In the light of all this it has been speculated that he might the leave the party and join the Congress. But it has been called a rumour.
