Opposition throws paper balls at Governor during first session of UP assembly

Lucknow: The first assembly session of Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh commenced on a noisy note when the opposition benches tried to disrupt Governor Ram Naik's joint address to both the houses by raising vociferous slogans and throwing paper balls at him.

Displaying discontent over prevailing law and order situation in the state, the opposition members comprised of Samajwadi Party, Congress and BSP were on their feet as the joint address of the Governor started. They disrupted the address by blowing whistles, raising slogans and throwing paper balls at Ram Naik making job of the house marshals tough.

The former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, however, was seen paying attention at the address of the Governor while his party members were busy in creating ruckus in the house. The Goevrnor read few lines of his address before leaving the house amid uproarious scenes.

The State's newly elected 17th legislative assembly will have its first session for passage of the UP GST bill amongst other major decisions. While the bill has already been cleared by the Parliament, it now requires the nod of the states to notify rule and regulations by the respective state governments for its pan-India implementation from July this year.
