UP IAS Kunwar Fateh Bahadur joins BSP after retirement, made spokesman

Lucknow: Another retired IAS officer has taken a plunge into politics as Uttar Pradesh cadre officer Kunwar Fateh Bahadur Singh joins Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party. Immediately, he has been made party spokesman to represent party in media debates, a first with BSP.

An 1981-batch Kunwar Fateh Bahadur has recently attained superannuation and joined BSP. A long-time Mayawati confidant Fateh Bahadur held the important posts of Principal Secretary of Home and Appointment departments during 2007-2012 regime of Mayawati as the Chief Minister.

It was after the Naseemuddin Siddiqui episode, the BSP Supremo decided to name party spokesman to represent the party in media debates. As BSP sources put, the experience of Fateh Bahadur as the Principal Secretary of Home department would come handy to corner the Yogi government on the issue of Law and Order in the state.

In fact, the Law and Order during Mayawati regime was generally appreciated by the people with Fateh Bahadur as head of Home department.

It was after P L Punia, once the close aide of Mayawati, that any senior IAS officer has joined the party. Punia, in fact, had decided to join the Congress after his fallout with Mayawati on Taj Heritage case. He had been the Principal Secretary to Mayawati and used to call the shots before parting ways.
