UP Governor Ram Naik still rigid on proposed names for MLCs

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik on Monday has finally returned the file containing list of candidates to be nominated to the Legislative Council.

Naik has returned the names of candidate against whom criminal cases were registered and who do not have any expertise in any of the five areas under article 171(5) of Indian constitution, Raj Bhawan sources said.

These were the names:

The names on which Governor did not give his consent to nominate are:

• Dr Kamlesh Kumar Pathak.
• Sanjay Seth.
• Ranvijay Singh.
• Abdul Sarfaraz Khan
• Dr Rajpal Kashyap.

Seeks new list:

Naik in his letter sent to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has sought a new list of candidates to be nominated.

Discussion held with Akhilesh:

• The Governor in his letter has also mentioned about the minutes of his meeting with Akhilesh Yadav, during which he was assured that the new list would be sent to him soon.
• The Raj Bhawan has not received any new list so far.
