New Delhi: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray reached Delhi on Tuesday morning to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After this he reached the Prime Minister's residence located on Lok Kalyan Marg.

During this meeting, he will discuss with the Prime Minister on issues like financial assistance for Maratha reservation and relief measures on Cyclone Tauktae. State Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Public Works Minister Ashok Chavan have also reached Delhi along with the Chief Minister.

Uddhav Thackeray to meet PM Modi:

Ashok Chavan heads the cabinet subcommittee on Maratha reservation. A month ago, the Supreme Court struck down the 2018 reservation law in Maharashtra to provide reservation to Maratha community people in jobs and education, terming it unconstitutional.

Last month, CM Thackeray had written a letter to integrate the Maratha community into the socially and educationally backward class, so that they can take advantage of reservation.

The Supreme Court had struck down Maharashtra's law granting reservation to the Maratha community in educational institutions and government jobs as unconstitutional and held that there was no extraordinary circumstance to exceed the 50 per cent ceiling of reservation, which was determined in 1992. in the Board's decision.

After being rejected by the Supreme Court, the Maharashtra government on May 31 announced the benefit of reservation given to the Maratha community under the Economically Weaker Income Group (EWS) category. The government had said in its order that the Maratha community can take advantage of 10 percent EWS reservation.
