Lucknow: In a significant political development, Swati Singh, wife of expelled BJP leader Dayashankar Singh, has been appointed state President of UP BJP Mahila Morcha.

Confirming the decision of Bharatiya Janata Party state president Keshav Prasad Maurya, the party spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said that the appointment will come into being with immediate effect.

Swati Singh was in the limelight for her vocal demeanor after her husband was expelled from the party for his slur against BSP Supremo Mayawati in July last. He was later arrested and released on bail after a FIR was lodged by BSP leaders against him.

Swati Singh had taken the charge against Mayawati and other senior BSP leaders when her husband faced allegations of maligning the image of BSP Supremo. In fact her mother had filed a FIR against BSP leaders accusing them of harassing Swati and her minor daughter.

It has come as no surprise because her oratory skills and the manner in which she had taken up the BSP leadership had come in praise from various political and social quarters. As a matter of fact, BJP wants to have fiery leaders at the helm of affairs ahead of Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections.

According to internal party sources, Swati Singh may be given ticket in the coming UP assembly elections.
