Supreme Court should take cognizance of Hathras Rape Case: Mayawati

Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party national president Mayawati has condemned the police for secretly forcibly conducting the last rites without the consent of her family members after the death of a gang rape victim in Hathras. And resentment arises. The BSP supremo has said that the Supreme Court should take action on its own cognizance or else the UP government and the police will not be able to punish the Dalit girl and her family for justice and convicts.

Mayawati wants Supreme Court should look into Hathras matter:

BSP supremo Mayawati tweeted on Wednesday morning that the UP police did not hand over the corpse of Hathras's gang rape Dalit victim to her family. Hathras Police's act is shameful:

In another tweet, Mayawati said that it would be better if the Supreme Court takes appropriate action. By taking cognizance of this serious case on its own. Otherwise the attitude of the UP government and the police in this heinous case does not seem to be that of the death of the gang-rape victim. Even after that, her family will get justice and severe punishment for the culprits.

On Tuesday Mayawati tweeted, The government should provide all possible help to the victim’s family. Govt should ensure speedy punishment to the culprits by prosecuting them in fast track court.

Earlier on Sunday, Mayawati had also targeted the Yogi government of UP in this case. She tweeted that along with the Dalit society in UP, sister and daughters of other society are not safe. The BSP supremo had demanded the UP government to pay attention to this.

The dead body of the Hathras gang-rape victim reached the village late on Tuesday and the last rites of the victim were performed amidst heavy opposition from the family and the villagers. But when the victim’s body reached the village in the middle of the night, the angry villagers were not ready for the funeral.

But despite heavy opposition from the villagers, the victim has been cremated. In view of the anger of the people, a large number of police is deployed in the area. Continuing justice is being demanded by the family, before the family refused to perform the funeral in haste.
