Meerut/Shamli: Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Atul Pradhan’s ‘Sadbhavna Yatra’, to counter BJP MP Sangeet Som’s Nirbhaya Yatra, was prevented on Friday from going to Kairana village from where a larger number of Hindus are believed to have migrated. It was stopped on the way near Sardhana canal.

Atul, along with his hundreds of supporters, was moving towards Kairana when police stopped them.

In a bid to maintain law and order in Western UP, Section 144 was imposed by UP administration in Sardhana of Meerut and Kairana of Shamli, banning accumulation of people.

Atul Pradhan Said:

  • I was not aware of the section 144
  • I have full faith and respect for the state government

Earlier in the day, the much-publicised 42-km ‘Nirbhay Yatra’ of BJP MLA Sangeet Som to Kairana was stopped abruptly after they travelled just 2 Kms from the point they started their rally.
