Lucknow: Former Samajwadi Party (SP) Uttar Pradesh chief Shivpal Yadav on Wednesday announced that he would launch 'Samajwadi Secular Front', under the leadership of Mulayam Singh Yadav on July 6.

Shivpal, who had been sidelined from the Samajwadi Party leadership after an internal tiff with current party chief Akhilesh Yadav, clarified that the new outfit would not be a political party but just a front that would be aimed at bringing SP back on the right track.

"We will constitute the Samajwadi Secular Front on July 6 to bring the Samajwadi Party on the right track. We will formally announce it at a meeting in Lucknow," Shivpal told reporters here.

He asserted that the new front will associate the sidelined leaders of SP and will also hold talks with other political parties to strengthen the party.

"Samajwadi Party patron Mulayam Singh Yadav will be the national president of the front and I would be its convenor," Shivpal said.

It would be a front, and not a political party, he clarified.

"First of all, the family and then the Samajwadi family will be united and this will be possible under the leadership of Netaji (Mulayam). I want to ensure that 'Netaji's' honour is upheld", he said.

Samajwadi Party has undergone a prolonged internal tiff since before the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections with party being divided in two factions led by Akhilesh Yadav and Shivpal Yadav.

On being asked about BJP government's order to probe the riverfront project, launched under previous Samajwadi Party regime when he was a minister, Shivpal said, "There were no discrepancies when I was the minister. I don't know what happened later."
