SP denies ticket to Ravidas Mehrotra, Cong candidate to file nomination

Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party candidate Ravidas Mehrotra has been denied ticket by the party on Tuesday. Mehrotra who was the SP candidate from Lucknow Central assembly constituency has been replaced by Maroof Khan of the Congress party. Khan will file his nomination for the elections at 1130 hours here on Tuesday.

This step has been taken by the SP after it got into an alliance with the Congress and it may be possible that more candidates could be denied ticket by the former as it could be recalled that the SP had declared 350 of 403 assembly candidates while it was decided that the party will give 105 seats to the Congress in pre-poll alliance.

It means the ruling party will have to withdraw 27 candidates to accommodate Congress candidates on these seats and one them, Ravidas Mehrotra, has already been removed.

Mehrotra is also the Minister of Health in the ruling government and is said to have close relationship with party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav. He had filed his nomination on Monday last.
