Homecoming: Sacked leader Dayashankar Singh re-joins BJP

Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party has re-inducted the sacked leader Dayashankar Singh into the party, on Sunday. Dayashankar was expelled, for six years, from the BJP for making derogatory statements about Bahujan Samaj Party Supremo Mayawati.

It could be mentioned that the saffron party had earlier indicated this re-induction after fielding his wife Swati Singh as assembly candidate from Sorjini Nagar constituency of Lucknow and the leader has finally made his home coming after Swati Singh won the assembly elections defeating Anurag Yadav by 34,179 votes.

Sources say that Dayashankar and his wife Swati, who confronted Mayawati after BSP’s equally abusive show against the expelled BJP leader’s family, likely to be fielded as candidates in the 2017 assembly elections.

What was the case?

  • Dayashankar Singh made an inappropriate comment against BSP Supremo Mayawati while accusing her selling party tickets.
  • His comment made waves in the political circles, following which BJP had to expel him for six long years in July.
  • Irked by Dayashankar’s remark, Bahujan Samaj Party workers and senior party leaders took to the streets in Lucknow, demanding his arrest.
  • They used derogatory language against the female family members of the Dayashankar Singh and gave a chance to BJP to bounce back.
  • BJP demanded action against senior BSP leaders including senior party member Naseemduddin Siddiqui.
  • Dayashankar was arrested but later granted bail by a local court of Mau district in Uttar Pradesh.
