Rs 15000-crore Lucknow-Agra Expressway comes under Yogi's scanner

Lucknow: Will the first FIR in a 'faulty' land compensation to farmers in Firozabad district open the can of worms in Rs 15000-crore Lucknow-Agra Expressway, one of the dream projects of previous Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh ?

The 301-kms Expressway, which passed through Lucknow, Unnao, Kanpur Dehat, Mainpuri, Etawah, Auraiya, Hardoi, Kannuaj, Firozabad and Agra, has come on the scanner of Yogi government after a FIR was lodged on the direction of Firozabad District Magistrate Neha Sharma on Sunday.

Confirming this to newstrack.com, the DM Neha Sharma said the land in Bachera,Bacheri village under Sirsaganj tahsil which was acquired was of agriculture nature but the compensation was paid after showing this as residential land making excess payment to the farmers from the state exchequer. " The FIR was lodged against 27 persons which included tahsildar of Sirsaganj,'' she added.

Interestingly, the action came only after Navneet Sehgal, the CEO of UP Expressway Development Authority (UPEIDA), the agnecy undertaking the mega-project, was removed from the post to be put in the waiting.

A total of 3420 hectare land belonged to over 30000 farmers of 232 vilages in these ten districts was acquired for the project and many eyebrows were raised over manner of compensation paid as most of the beneficiaries were located in Samajwadi Party-dominated region.

Refusing to divulge further, the DM said the necessary probe on the FIR had been launched. It may be recalled that this dream project of Akhilesh Yadav was projected as one of the success stories of SP-led UP government and was claimed to had been built in a record time.
