Jhansi: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi embarked upon his road show in Jhansi city of Bundelkhand in Uttar Pradesh, which had been his political battleground since years.

Rahul started his road show after garlanding the statues of Rani Laxmibai and Jhalkari Bai. Accompanied by former Union minister Pradeep Jain, several other senior leaders will go around the city.

Before this, he also heard the problems of women folks who had gathered at Rani Laxmibai Park to apprise him of their problems.

It may be recalled that the Congress had always been bitter about the backwardness of Bundelkhand region and attacked the ruling party in the state for its negligence.

On Saturday, Rahul had launched an acerbic attack on the Samajwadi Party government in the state and said SP leaders were fighting among themselves while the state was striving for the development. He had even termed senior SP Minister Shivpal Yadav as an 'outdated' wheel of the cycle (the election symbol of SP).

Road show opposed:

The activists of Bundelkhand Mukti Morcha (BMM) headed by the outfit’s president, Babulal Tiwari, gathered at Jhansi’s Circuit House demonstrating against Rahul Gandhi and demanding to make Bundelkhand a separate state. They raised slogans like “Jhooth Ki Aandhi, Rahul Gandhi” (Rahul Gandhi, a storm of falsehood) and “Rahul Ab Tumhari Ek Na Chalegi” (Rahul, we will no more listen to you now) during the road show.

“When Rahul is left with no other options, he is trying to return to Bundelkhand and we all are very well aware of the fact that Rahul will not show up once he gets back the power,” said the BMM president.

What else the BMM president said:

  • Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati had passed the proposal of making Bundelkhand a state during her party’s rule in UP but the Congress never let it happened ruling the Centre.
  • The Congress always talks about favouring the farmers while they are the ones whom the party neglects the most.
  • Congress has always been politicizing the sensitive issues of Bundelkhand.

  • If Bundelkhand turns into a state, the issue of unemployment in the region will come to an end.
