New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday targeted the DMK and the Congress, alleging that their leaders continue to insult women. He also underlined that the aim of the NDA's schemes is the empowerment of women.

PM in Madurai:

Addressing an election rally here, Modi appealed to the people to vote in favor of the National Democratic Alliance candidate including the allies AIADMK in the April 6 assembly elections. He said that the vision of late Chief Minister late MG Ramachandran for inclusive development and prosperous society inspires us.

Modi targets Congress:

Taking a dig at the DMK and Congress, Modi said that they have no agenda to talk and alleged that both the parties fighting together will not guarantee the safety and dignity of the people and the law and order worsens under his rule.

He indirectly referred to a dispute between two brothers MK Stalin and MK Alagiri in the DMK's first family, alleging that the party had earlier attempted to convert peace-loving Madurai into a 'Mafia stronghold' due to family issues.

Modi, while referring to the local goddess Meenakshi Amman and her popular names Kannagi, Rani Mangammal and Velu Nachiyar, said that Madurai learns the empowerment of 'Nari Shakti'. He said that many of the NDA schemes, including the Ujjwala scheme, focused on the empowerment of women. Without naming anyone, he said, 'DMK and Congress do not understand these values. There is no wonder that their leaders insult women again and again.

DMK leader A Raja had earlier surrounded the controversy by making indecent remarks against the mother of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami at an election rally, which was widely criticized. Taking cognizance of the complaint of the ruling AIADMK, the Election Commission on Thursday banned Raja from campaigning for 48 hours and removed his name from his party's list of star campaigners.
