PK meets Mulayam in Delhi; hint of Congress-SP alliance?

New Delhi: The aborted attempt to forge a ' grand alliance ' in last Bihar assembly polls notwithstanding , the murmurings for the same have started to be heard in Uttar Pradesh political circles , the initiative for which is being taken by Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

A rather unexpected meeting of Mulayam and Congress poll strategist Prashant Kishor (PK) has given rise to the fresh speculations about possibility of an alliance between Congress and SP ahead of the assembly polls due next year.

No official words from either party, however, authenticate the reports as of now but sources close to Singh said that an hour-long-talk in the presence of Amar Singh at former’s Delhi residence was inclined towards a major political patch-up between the two parties.

The SP state party President Shiv Pal Singh Yadav had already met the Rashtriya Lok Dal president Ajit Singh about a week ago and now Mulayam-PK meeting- all indicate towards the emrgence of new political dispensation before the assembly polls. It was for everyone to see that the 'grand alliance' in Bihar polls was spiked by SP general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav and this time he is not at the helm of the affairs thus brightening the chances of some sort of political adjustment.

Meanwhile, the million dollor question remains if UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav would agree to it. The kind of mood ,Akhilesh is in and the tacit support of Mulayam to his son, it is unlikely that such alliance could see the light of the day. May be, the response to Akhilesh's rath yatra, commencing on Thursday, would decide the fate of alliance, the political voices in the state suggest.

The focus seems to be garnering the muslim votes about which the SP does not seem to be confident this time. The aliance with Congress,if done, could help the party out despite the beleaguered position of the latter.
