Lucknow: Prashant Kishor, the Congress party poll strategist, has asked the leaders to ‘ keep the house in order’ before the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Annoyed by the recent scuffles inside the party, Kishor has asked the leaders not to get influence by the media reports and to apply the political sense while reading them.

He was present at the Wednesday meeting in Lucknow that saw Congress leaders from Ballia entering into an argument with each other.

What else he said:

  • PK said that excuses like infighting or groupism for not being able to identify dedicated workers would not work anymore.
  • Terming the next year slated state assembly elections as ‘a matter of life and death for Congress in UP’, the party’s poll strategist asked leaders to ‘first keep their house in order’.

The meeting:

  • PK held a meeting with the party’s leaders from Azamgarh and Mirzapur divisions in Lucknow.
  • The strategist said the next one-and-a-half months are crucial.
  • He emphasised on the need for leaders who wish to contest the elections to submit names of workers from every booth in their region.
  • The strategist plans to continue holding similar meetings until May 28.

The issues discussed in the meeting:

  • According to the party sources, issues such as, land acquisition by NHAI for four-lane Lucknow-Varanasi road, announcement of special package for the youths of Eastern UP, promising loan waiver up to Rs 50,000 for farmers and for those who have not been able to repay Kisan credit card loans for the past three years, were discussed at the meeting.

About the argument:

  • The scuffle took place after the two office bearers began to interrupt the party president of Ballia district when he was putting his views infront of the meeting panel.
  • The district president has recommended actions against the two members.
