Patna high court cancels L S membership of Cheddi Paswan

Patna: Chhedi Paswan has lost his Lok Sabha membership for submitting an affidavit concealing his criminal records. An order to this effect was given by the Patna High Court which heard the petition challenging his election on Thursday.

He was elected from Sasaram constituency in 2014 on the Bhartiya Janata Party ticket , defeating former Lok Sabha spearker Meera Kumar ( Congress). His membership was cancelled by justice K K Mandal on a petition filed by Ganga Mishra.

The Petitioner had charged him with concealing two cases, creating a roadblock and pasting posters on a railway station. Neither was any chargesheet submitted in these cases nor any action taken against him. But the court did not go by these arguments and found concealment ground enough for disqualification.

Paswan said he would appeal against the order in higher court.
