Lucknow: Soon after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had announced the name of new Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, the opposition parties have tightened their belts to launch a fresh salvo, knowing that Yogi Adityanath had been a synonym to controversies.

The attack from the opposition leaders shifted from the allegations of tampered EVMs to Yogi Adityanath soon after the big announcement was made on Saturday.

Mocking at the voters in the state and also the media men, Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi said, “Hello media men; the man you called ‘fringe’, is now mainstream. Congratulations UP. The mask of development is truly off. Shamshaan-Kabristan, Diwali-Eid speeches of PM Modi speak volumes.”

Congress’ Randeep Surjewala: "Despite overwhelming majority, excessive delay in arriving at a decision as also the compulsion to create two posts of Deputy CMs reflects a bitter conflict to share spoils of power."

Samajwadi Party’s Naresh Agrawal: "Next six months would be crucial. We hope he will change his thinking and desist from creating a divide between Hindus and Muslims."

SP leader Azam Khan: “Yogi is a communal leader. So, only communal leaders like AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, Maulana Ahmed Bukhari and Ulema council’s Amir Rashid have the right to react over his appointment as UP CM. They have worked really hard in 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections."

CPI (M)’s Mohammad Salim: "Amit Shah and Narendra Modi systematically played communal card with the election of Yogi Adityanath as UP CM."

CPI (M)’s Brinda Karat: "It is clearly the RSS agenda and UP is the new experimental field for it. Since it is the victory of RSS (in UP elections), it has chosen the CM."

TMC leader Saugata Roy: "The BJP is in majority and it is their prerogative as to whom they name as the Chief Minister. But it is evident that the BJP wants to pursue a strong Hindutva line in UP."

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut: "The controversial remarks won't work now as he will be the next chief minister of the Uttar Pradesh, India's largest state. Now he should talk about development."
