Lucknow: There is no police station in Uttar Pradesh which does not have three or four working muslims, according to Samajwadi Party (SP) chief

Talking to media persons here on Friday following return of former union minister Beni Prasad Verma to the party, he claimed that all other governments had provided only lip service to them. “The minority community had faith in our party and we did not disappoint it”.

“ We have fulfilled all the promises made to the community in our manifesto in just about two and a half years. Our aim now is to extend the fight against other parties to Delhi”, he added.

He revealed that he was not much in favour of metro rail service in Lucknow. But it had support of his son and chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. The project is likely to be partially completely by the end of the current calendar year.

Referring to the grand alliance proposal he said he was much in favour of it but it was Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar who “ deserted us”. At this stage Beni interjected to say that “what is past is past”.

Later, Beni clarified that he had joined the Congress after leaving the SP not for only ministerial berth. “ It was just by chance that I became a Union minister”.
