Lucknow: The newly-elected members of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council were today administered oath of post and secrecy at a simple ceremony on Wednesday.

Chairman of Vidhan Parishad Om Prakash Sharma administered oath to 36 members in the presence of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav .

The ceremony was mired in the confusion after the Governor ram Naik had detained the file as it was sent to him directly instead of being sent through the CM. The matter could be resolved only after Akhilesh spoke to the Governor .

Congratulating the new members, the UP CM said the Upper House, also known as the House of Elders, has so many young members this time so it would be pertinent to say it a young House.

He hoped the new members would upkeep high traditions of parliamentary practice and constitutional propriety.
