Nana Patole appointed as the Chief of Maharashtra Congress

Nana Patole is an MLA from Sakoli seat in Bhandara district. There were already reports of him being handed over the command of Maharashtra Congress.

New Delhi: A day after resigning from the post of Maharashtra Assembly Speaker, Nana Patole has been appointed the state president of the Congress on Friday. Patole is an MLA from Sakoli seat in Bhandara district. There were already reports of him being handed over the command of Maharashtra Congress. He will replace Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat as state head.

All eyes were on Nagpur seat:

Nana Patole contested Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in Nagpur seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Due to the collision of Nana Patole and Gadkari, this seat of Maharashtra was eyeing all over the country. However, Gadkari won the election with a difference of nearly one lakh votes.

Resigned from BJP in 2017

Nana Patole was earlier in the Bharatiya Janata Party. In 2014, on a party ticket, he defeated then Union Minister and veteran NCP leader Prafulla Kumar Patel. However, due to differences later, in 2017, he left the BJP and joined Congress. On the Congress ticket, he again became an MLA from Sakoli seat in 2018. And then from the Congress, he got an important post like assembly speaker.

Patole, who identifies as the OBC leader, has been very vocal on the issue of farmers. Because of his attachment to the issue of farmers, the Congress has also made him the chairman of All India Kisan Congress.

There were reports of several Congress leaders leaving the party before the Maharashtra Assembly elections. It is believed that Nana Patol can work on a new strategy to strengthen the party organization. This decision of the Congress is also being linked to the farmers' movement in the country.
