PM Modi meets Gujarat CM to examine drought situation in state

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday examined the drought situation in parts of Gujarat in a meeting with Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, confirmed a PMO statement.

Modi, when informed about the steps taken to mollify the effected people, appreciated the state government’s efforts, calling for further actions to banish the need to supply tanker water.

Highlights:

  • Senior officials from the central as well as the state government had also attended the meeting.
  • The Gujarat CM said that 1.68 lakh check dams, 1.25 lakh bori bandhs and 2.74 lakh farm ponds have been made with storage capacity of 42.3 billion cubic feet water.
  • The CM also told that piped water supply was being provided to 77 percent of the state’s households.
