Metro Man E Sreedharan to join BJP, says not a sudden decision (PC: Social Media)
New Delhi: Metro Man E Sreedharan will join the Bharatiya Janata Party. Before the assembly elections in Kerala, this is considered a big success for the BJP. It was told that Sreedharan will join the BJP in the Vijay Yatra to be held on February 21, led by the party’s state unit president K Surendram.
Sreedharan told a newspaper, ‘This decision is not taken suddenly. I have been in Kerala for the last decade and want to do something for the state. I can do nothing alone. That’s why I joined the party. Sreedharan, who advised the Kerala government on the metro projects in the state, said that he will stop it now. According to the newspaper, Sreedharan said, “I will focus on BJP-centric activities.”
There was a minor controversy during the inauguration of Lucknow Metro in the year 2017, after which the top BJP leaders forgot to put ‘Metro Man’ in the frame. Sreedharan was sidelined at the event, a photo of which went viral.
Who is Metro Man?
Actually, E Sreedharan, known as Metro Man, is known for his significant contribution from Kolkata Metro to Delhi Metro. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2001 and the Padma Vibhushan Award in 2008 for his contributions to revolutionary transport medium like Metro.
Not only this, the French government also awarded him the ‘Chavalier de la Legion d’honneur’ award in the year 2005, in view of his contribution in the development work. Apart from this, America’s world famous magazine Time magazine also gave him the title of ‘Hero of Asia’.
