Lo and Behold, Behenji Mayawati decides to turn modern in UP assembly elections

Lucknow: BTM ( Behenji turns Modern) , the term has been in vogue in the colleges to be used for small towns girls turning modern. It, however, is sparingly used in political parlance, certainly not for BSP Supremo Mayawati who has her own style to run the party in the most traditional manner.

The Uttar Pradesh assembly elections 2017 has seen many stereotypes being demolished like the war of attrition between father and son, Congress being in position to bargain seats for alliance with the ruling Samajwadi Party but the Bahujan Samaj Party may move with the hi-tech era was still unthinkable. But then... this is the reality as in the way Mayawati-led party is treading into the alien territory for it is an interesting endeavour to watch.

The twitter and facebook accounts by BSP workers at the district level, songs and videos featuring Mayawati on social media and more latest release of posters with catching punch lines as well as audios of Mayawati in the wake of UP polls suggest the BSP no more remains the rural-based conservative party which has decided to move with the times.

The party may not be having a well defined election war room but the freedom accorded to party cadre to use social media platform manifests, bahenji wants to change and change for the good. The recently acquired modernity by the BSP has promised a whole new flavour of election campaigning which has been nothing short of an extraterrestrial concept for the strong cadre-based traditional party.

It was BSP Supremo for you three years ago when on her 58th birthday on January 15, 2014, she had a clear message for her cadre not to indulge in social media. It is for three years when the workers are being linked through whatsapp groups, the facebook and twitter handles have been created at district levels and the candidates are being asked to remain active of social media. There are pages like www.twitter.com/bsp4india and similar others coupled with FB pages like ‘BSP UP Mission 2017’, ‘BSP4India’ and ‘BSP4UP’ and the live update of party’s rallies and ‘Bhaichara Sammelans’ can be seen on FB pages of party seniors Satish Chandra Mishra and Naseemuddin Siddiqui.

On the top of it, the old slogans have become things of the past and the party has come out with the new posters and new slogans attacking the political opponents rather pointedly.
