Mayawati slams Centre, Akhilesh govt for doing politics of religion

Lucknow: Slamming the BJP and ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh, BSP Supremo Mayawati, on Monday, said that both the parties were involved in the ‘politics of religion’ – the announcement of Ramayana Sangrahalay (museum) and Ramleela theme park at Ayodhya being the glaring example.

She said that promoting tourism in Ayodhya is good but the timing comes in question. “The projects of Ayodhya have deliberately been announced by the centre ahead of UP assembly election.”

Former UP CM wrapped Akhilesh Yadav govt for providing a helping hand to BJP in the sense that projects will develop only on papers in the absence of proper budgetary allocation.

What else Mayawati said?

  • Linking religion with politics is condemnable.
  • The thought of promoting tourism in Ayodhya should have come much earlier if they were really concerned about the issues.
  • Mayawati also warned the Centre and the Akhilesh Yadav government that the disputed area in Ayodhya should not be tampered with and status quo has to be maintained.
